Laid Bare (Brown Siblings, #1)

Just ok. Nothing special or different. Needed more emotional pull.
STORY BRIEF:
Todd is a policeman. Erin and her brother Adrian have a rock band. Erin is attracted to Todd and initiates sex. She likes it hard with some roughness and pain. Todd is hot for her but doesn’t feel it’s right to be rough. He is afraid of his feelings. So he breaks up with her and moves to Boston . He marries sweet Shiela, and they later divorce. He never felt lust for Sheila the way he did with Erin. Ten years later, he returns to Seattle to work in a private security firm with his friends.
During those ten years, Erin and Adrian went to L.A. and became successful rock musicians. Erin had a child who was killed by a stalker. In grief, Erin left the business, returned to Seattle, and opened a coffee shop. She now lives in a secured building with extra locks. She is afraid of a number of things. Todd sees her and tells he is ready for their type of relationship. He wants to try being a dom for her. She still wants him and says yes. Along the way, Ben (Todd’s business partner) enters the picture for ménage à trois. Todd is surprised to find he likes male/male sexuality.
REVIEWER’S OPINION:
It was interesting, but I wasn’t surprised or delighted enough to give it more stars. I wasn’t pulled in emotionally enough. The dialogue was nothing out of the ordinary. It felt like the telling of a story of events happening in people’s lives. One problem was the need for more relationship development with Ben. He just seemed to be thrown into the mix all of a sudden, with the other two loving him all of a sudden. I had no major problem. It just felt like stories and events that have been done before. Sex scenes were ok but not very hot. They include ménage à trois (2 men 1 woman), bondage, and some pain. On balance, I’d say get it from the library if you want to try it.
DATA:
Story length: 322 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 17. Approximate number of sex scene pages: 68. Setting: current day Seattle, Washington and California. Copyright: 2009. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.
