I've only read one Stephen King book -- but I've read all his columns in Entertainment Weekly, which are brilliant, funny and for me, age-relatable. So when he recommends a book and it sounds interesting, I usually pick it up. "Uncle Stevie," as he calls himself in the magazine mentioned the many twists this thriller takes -- and that was about the best part of it. But at some point, you can see them coming, announcing themselves like a honking freight train.

A Principled Newspaper Columnist is busy uncovering corruption -- lots of bad guys don't want to be exposed. That turns out to be the least of the PNC's problems...can't spoil it by saying more. Suffice to say there's domestic drama aplenty, deep dark secrets, deception--and diamonds! Or, cubic z's. Which is kind of like this book -- it's shiny and enticing but for me, anyway, didn't turn out to be this girl's best friend.
