really liked it
Recommended to Dan by: I enjoyed the Sharpe's Rifles BBC movie series and thought I would probably enjoy the books by Cornwell more.
Recommended for: Those interested in Sharpe's Rifles movies.

Bernard Cornwell did a great job with this book. Anyone who has seen the BBC movies will appreciate this earlier account of Private Richard Sharpe's military career and encounters with Sergeant Obidiah Hakeswill. The book is well researched and there are historical notes at the end of the text. I would suggest to any reader that they also research this period of British history so that they might better appreciate historical references in Cornwell's writing and take note of areas that he has taken some liberties. I would highly recommend this book.
