This book was quite a surprise for me as previously I'd only known Wells as a science fiction writer. The story of Tono-Bungay is the story of a fictional characters life writen in the first person looking back over it, but it also speaks volumes about the authors thoughts and experiences too.

The book is wonderful and rewarding but Wells makes a lot of social commentary, some of which is (understandably!) outdated. In truth, this is not just a simple story, to pick up and put down, but an adventure and a lesson, and all the richer for it.
