Tess is happily married to Dr. Nick Russo and has decided to quit her job to stay home and raise their two children. She trys to support him in every way she can despite the fact that he is constantly being called away to help his patients. An anniversary dinner has to be boxed up and taken home when Nick is called to the hospital to work on the burned hand and face of a child in their social group. This is just one of many times and Tess begins to feel that things are changing. Lives intertwine as no one, least of all Tess could have imagined. Emily Giffin has done a spectacular job creating her characters and describing the deep emotional responses of each of them. The ending is not predictable. I have read the other three books that Emily has written and feel that although I enjoyed the others she has perfected her craft and brought it to a higher level in this novel.
