The Moonstone (Modern Library Classics)
by William Wilkie Collins
I love Wilkie Collins. I read The Woman In White not too long ago, and I absolutely loved it. He does the same thing with the narration in that one, if you haven't read it. I own The Moonstone, and I started it over Christmas, but then break ended and it was back to school with 10 million assigned books, so it's back on my shelf for now.
dave loved that one too. i guess i need to check it out. that's one of the great things about not having assigned reading anymore...way less guilt reading books for fun. good luck with your (last?) semester!
Two more quarters (instead of semesters). Graduate in June. Then I can read all I want for fun. By the way, I think it's hilarious we're both stuffing our faces in our profile pictures here. Haha!

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this one. It was chosen for book club (something I have yet to attend but really hope to one day) and it is a classic. I tend to have unfair biases against classics but almost always end up liking them (you would think this would lead me to let go of that bias, but not so much). So basically I just thought it was a really fun detective novel. Collins has various narrators throughout who tell different parts of the story, which keeps it interesting and the story takes some unexpected turns. I wasn’t as into the second narrator (the Christian fanatic) but enjoyed all the others. I think the story at this point dragged just a bit. There is a character, the butler, who is totally into Robinson Crusoe (treats it as his bible) and it made me want to read it again...he uses some great quotes from it. What a cool shout-out to Defoe. Anyway, I would definitely recommend it. It’s a nice, light, easy, engaging read.
