really liked it
Read in January, 1992

This is another work which has always suffered from bad translations. Pinsky does a fantastic job making the language modern and working out his own type of terza rima that uses approximate rhyme to avoid the mangling of the English language to fit the triple rhyme scheme which is so easily achieved in Romance languages. The notes are also very well written. The scene in the 9th Circle with Ugolino is still one of the most heart-breaking moments in literature.
