I love this book and my daughter also likes the story. The pictures are amazing and really bring the book to life. The themes of being true to yourself and honest are told in a very understated manner. The look inside another culture is presented in a realistic, yet light way. I think this would be a good first exposure to Chinese culture and a nice jumping off point for children to learn more about Asian societies, in general. My daughter is always so nervous when we read the story together and the young boy goes to the Emperor with his empty pot. But, she loves when he is praised for his truthfulness and then we have a "teachable moment" when we get to talk about the importance of telling the truth. A great read, beautifully told with lovely illustrations.
