What a great surprise! This book has been sitting on my shelf for about 5 years now and, in spite of frequent recommendations, I never got around to reading it until now. On top of that, I didn't remember anything about it when I began reading it so the unique format was a surprise. Normally playing with structure and format like this bothers me (see: Only Revolutions) but this structure actually served the narrative rather than feeling like a gimmick. The thematic threads (slavery, colonialism, relationships, the role or art, corproate imperialism) were so beautifully woven through the different stories, and each story on its own was so great that it worked as a set of short stories just as well as a novel. The mix of genre's was seamless as well (not an easy feat, I imagine).
