This worked very excellently as a conclusion to the saga beginning in Crank and continued in Glass. Rather than give us more of the drama from Kristina's fairly warped point of view, Hopkins opted to tell this portion of the story from the perspective of her three oldest children (now teenagers). It worked out well--by now, the reader has a good idea of just what addiction can do to an individual, and this gave a much broader perspective on what it can do to a family.

There seemed to be a lot more hope in this than the previous two, while balancing it with the dangers of a genetic predisposition to addiction (paired with children who feel rejected and hurt, and of course angry, at a mother who was never there for them). The others were pretty horrible in terms of one terrible step in Kristina's destructive path after another, whereas this deals with kids who make stupid and potentially destructive mistakes, but also are matured early due to their abandonment.

The others give you a lot more sympathy towards Kristina, since it's from her perspective and you can easily find yourself thinking "well, it's not her fault, she's addicted." Fallout twisted that around, making her much less sympathetic due to how much harm her addiction has done to so many people around her.

My only real complaint is the ending seemed so abrupt. It ended on an interesting note, but I definitely could have used some more substance to it. Still, the growth in all three kids (and the furthering of Kristina's saga) made this an excellent way to end the story. It's been an interesting ride through these three books, for sure.
