I read this book as part of my illustrator project. I enjoyed it--the color palate and some of the images and ideas reminded me a lot of free fall, but the rhymes and the story are not as sophisticated as some of wiesner's later stuff. Yet, the book was still good and there was enough stuff going on with the illustrations that I can ignore the silly poem towards the end and would recommend the book for younger children (4 and up). This is a story you could read to kids, but remember, it is Wiesner before his images get extremely complicated, so it is less likely to entice children.
