really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

Disturbingly funny story about an alienated, disenfranchised man living in the shattered remnants of German culture in the wake of WWII. He is an alcoholic, a cynical philosopher, and, yes, a clown.... This literary investigation has a distinct mood that sticks with you. It is bleak but humorous - metaphysical yet naturalistic. This is an often overlooked classic that is well worth the read.
