This was a good story, and I can see it's insperation all over the place. I've heard C.S. Lewis based his White Queen on it, Anne Rice must have thought of this book when she was writing "Queen of the Damned", even George R.R. Martin stole the best death secene. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Forgotten Realms entire Drow race has it's basis somewhere in this (I know...I'm a nerd...)

Anywho, lots of cool dialogues. Some excellent scenes fighting cannibals and within the African caves. And at the moment when 'She' steps into the fire...wow, great description.

I was impressed, but I think I've read too many books like this recently...so at times it seemed tedious, and only got 3 stars. Well worth reading, though...
