Read from October 08 to 09, 2010

Man, after years of devouring all of Bendis' story arcs that rippled out from this, it was long overdue to go back and remember what actually happened to kick it all off. Great storytelling, with cryptic flashbacks and a trickle of what happened being spooled out throughout the issues. Gritty, unapologetic and a helluva premise on which to hang so many plots hereafter.

And the artwork! This is why I cannot read 20th-century comics any longer. The quality, detail and artistic prowess are first-rate - just simply beautiful to look at. I would hang any frame from this book on my wall - it's that good. I had to heck the credits a few times, 'cause I swore it looked like Alex Ross was doing this work.

Stellar piece of graphic storytelling, and an essential read for anyone who's read any of the major arcs in Marvel of the past few years.
