Sugar and Ice is a delightful, 2011 SCWBI Crystal Kite Award winning novel about a twelve-year-old Claire who is given the opportunity of a lifetime ––to train at Lake Placid with a great coach after he sees her figure skating. Claire has mixed feelings about the opportunity since it pulls her away from school, friends, and family. In addition, she has to contend with mean girls. Claire's journey to figure out who she is and what she wants out of life is a terrific read. Beautifully written, this novel will be appealing to MG girls. Sugar and Ice is a winner!
