Mazzeo's review of South of No North: Stories of the Buried Life
South of No North: Stories of the Buried Life by Charles Bukowski
Disappointing.
The stories are well written and in Bukowski’s normal vein; but the pieces lack the galloping pace and vitality I look for in short stories, instead they have the slow lingering pace of his novels. While I relish his novels, my expectations for short stories are definably different and these simply don’t measure up. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this book. Anyone looking to read Bukowski should grab one of his novels or a book of poetry.
