I'm not completely sure why, but I read this book five years ago, and there are still times when I think about it. It's not especially well-written book(that's not to say it isn't), the plot is not spectacular, the characters are not incredibly well defined, and it is not emotionally deep. However, it sticks with you, and that is a gift to be able to write like that. Not too many books that I have read have stuck with me quite like this one. Read because you'll remember it for a looong time. It's overall a pretty good book, too.
