This is not my type of book, but it was in a stack lent by a friend, so I tried a few stories and ended up reading the whole thing. I like the humor of the Jim Butcher story "Day Off", but the prize of the collection is Don D'Amassa's "No Problem": well-paced, good length, fine punch-line. "The Ungrateful Dead" was pretty good; without it as a lead-in, I may not have read as much of the book. "Hell in a Handbasket" and "Old School" were also pretty funny, but skip, skip, skip! "Mr. Bear", "Love Seat Solitaire" (not nearly as bad), and "I Know Who You Ate Last Summer". "A Very Special Girl" speaks to the part of me that likes the language of "Guys and Dolls", and Charlaine Harris's "An Evening With Al Gore", although entirely predictable, is so, um, charming, I almost want to read her other work, which my friends like so much, except that I really don't like most vampire fiction, so I can't see that I'd be that interested.
