I love Jerome Grootman's articles in the New Yorker and since I recently joined an organization filled with doctors, I thought it would be interesting and useful to read his book. His writing style is intelligent and open - and his use of case studies to talk about how doctors make their leaps in thinking was extremely interesting. I got a bit bogged down near the end (as often happens to me when I'm reading non-fiction - I can usually only make it through 2/3 of the book unless its EXTREMELY well written). But the insight into how doctors are trained to think, how emotion can cloud their judgement, and his own experience as a doctor interacting with other doctors when he was a patient was invaluable. Well written and worth checking out. by the way, my new years resolution was to stop grade inflation so I'm giving this three stars which is a good solid B in my book.
