The seventh Earl of Lucan killed his nanny, thinking it was his wife, and then beat his wife although she did not die . Lucan took it on the lam, aided and abetted by his upper crust friends; that part is true, but now Spark creates a story for him. Twenty years later she has Lucan in therapy with Dr Hildegard Wolf, who has her own secrets. She used to be a fake stigmata healer. We see interactions between Lucan, his double, the analyst and series of old friends. The writing is good, shows a lot of ironic humor and wry observations. However, it was repetitive as it probes various psyches.
