The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I found this book -- well, meh. Sorry. I know it's got all the hype and a Hollywood blockbuster behind it. The story is interesting, but there are better books about Afghanistan. The writing lacks discipline, and the writer repeatedly winds the plot up to almost unbearable tension and then pulls back into deflating, dreamy retrospective. Disappointing.
