The funny thing about reading Forsyth is you see what a master he is at curt writing. The guy just makes everything read genuine and compelling. Unfortuantely these days, people can also write and plot and produce really strong characters with compelling arcs. Forsyth can do those thing to, but THE COBRA feels like he just ran with a concept and had fun. There's no real conflict between protagonist and antaognist. Nothing driving the story. There are little personal stakes for the hero. The result is more an interesting rhetorical debate on how to take down the cartels. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, but it was a summer read feel.
