Recommended for: people who like a good mystery

I discovered Elizabeth George one summer by going to the Mt. Lebanon library and asking for book recommendations. The librarian recommended Elizabeth George and Ann Perry.
I read one or two novels by Perry and liked them okay, but I loved George. Writing British mysteries in the tradition of P.D. James, these novels are an enjoyable read. This is the first in the Thomas Lynley/Barbra Havers mystery series. There's also a PBS show made based on these characters. I'm a big fan of mystery novels and this series is my favorite. One thing that George is really good at is character development. He's got interesting main characters--Lynley, Havers as well as Deborah and St. James, friends of Lynley who sometimes take center stage in these novels. I would recommend the whole series, though there places in the middle where it falters a bit, but definitely read this first book and decide for yourself.
