Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1)

HEX HALL was a fantastic, mindless read that took my mind off of pressing issues that I'd rather not discuss. :)
Meanwhile, back at the ranch . . .
The first half of HEX HALL was the kind of book you want to read at the beach. The second half was the kind of book that made your heart pound and your palms sweat, but you didn't care because your eyes were glued to the pages and three hours could've passed while you were immersed within the pages.
It was that good.
The only thing that upset me about it is the fact that Soh-FEE-yuh was a little too sarcastic during serious moments. During moments were Bella Swan would be crying and rolling around on the floor, Sophie was cracking jokes, which is sometimes very funny, but gets annoying after a while.
The book kind of reminded me of what VAMPIRES SUCK did to TWILIGHT -- it made it absolutely hilarious during the most critical times. That was like what Rachel Hawkins did to HEX HALL.
Some funny parts:
"There was a sensible part of me somewhere that clutched its pearls and hissed that I'd better not give up my virginity in a cellar, but when Archer's hands slid under my shirt and onto the skin of my back, I started thinking that a cellar was as good a place as any."
"'Now, Sophia, would you care to tell me why you're here by the pond instead of reporting to your next class?'
'I'm experiencing some teenage angst, Mrs. Casnoff,' I answered. 'I need to, like, write in my journal or something.'"
"'You can't do a blocking spell, and you've never heard of L'Occhio di Dio? Man, what kind of witch are you?'"
I had an incredibly nasty retort ready that involved his mother and the U.S. Navy, but before I could get it out...."
"'Anyway, even if Archer was insane enough to have a thing for Sophie, after the All Hallow’s Eve Ball, he won’t even think about looking at another girl.'
'Why?'
'I’ve decided to give myself to him.'
Oh, gross. Who says stuff like that? Why didn’t she just say 'delicate flower' or 'carnal treasure' or something equally stupid?"
"I tugged at the hem of my brand-new Hecate Hall issue blue plaid skirt (Kilt? Some sort of bizarre skirt/kilt hybrid? A skilt?)"
