bookshelves: family, kindness, multicultural, read-alouds

This book was one of my favorites growing up. It celebrates kindness, and family values. The young girl and mother had everything taken away from them when their house caught on fire. The girl and mother work at a local diner. They save every coin possible to pay for a nice chair, the only item their home lacks.
