So I decided to read this book because I'm a big fan of the uglies series but to be honest I was a little disappointed it just didn't have the addictive qualities uglies had.Summary:It's about a 17-year-old Hunter Braque who's a trendsetter(second level of the pyramid) I'll explain the pyramid later, anyways his job is to find the newest, coolest thing for the retail market. But when he meets Jen James an innovator (top of the pyramid) mysterious things start to happen.First Jen goes with hunter to a meeting with his boss Mandy. When they discover Mandy's cell phone in an abandoned building and Mandy missing they become involved in a wild rooftop chase. they discover a missing cargo of the coolest shoes they've ever seen, ads for products they never seen and a group dedicated to the downfall of consumerism.
Ok now let's talk about the pyramid. At the top there are the innovators. The first person to keep a wallet on a chunky chain, wear way-to-big pants on purpose,to wash jeans in acid or wear a baseball cap backwards. Most innovators don't look that cool but there is always something off about them like there they're uncomfortable with the world.Next level down are the trendsetters who's goal is to be the second person in the world to catch the latest disease.Unlike the innovators they are cool so when they pick up an innovation it becomes cool.Below them are the early adopters who have to see the product on tv or at the mall before saying "Hey that's cool". Last are the Laggards who resist all change since they got out of high school.
Even though it didn't capture my interest as much as I wanted it to (or maybe I'm expecting to much since I'm a big fan of scott westerfeld:)It was still a good book and was a nice change from vampires and immortals. This spellbinding novel will make you question everything you've ever believed about how to be cool.
