it was amazing
bookshelves: just-finished

I have recently been lamenting that they don't write books like they used to or else I've read so many that I'm jaded to the point where nothing surprises me or delights me any more. I finished this book yesterday and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Still Missing gave me that "WOW, I'm sorry this book is over" feeling. This book so to speak had me at hello. From the first page, from the first word this book had me completely riveted.

I've never been raped, I've never been kidnapped but I completely understood Annie.I understood that she would do whatever it took to stay alive. I understood her anger and her fear and her bitterness and her need to sleep in the closet and her almost complete snarkiness with all the people who she had relationships with, who loved her. She came out of her experience so damaged and yet I saw the resilience in her and hope that she will manage to eventually live a good life. I liked her, a lot. If there is any criticism of this book it would be that I don't know how Annie turned out, but the author, leaving that to my imagination maybe did me a favor, now I get to choose what happens and I believe that, knowing Annie, she is living a good, satisfying life.

This book was really hard to read, her experiences so harrowing that I needed to put it down, take a deep breath and walk away more than once but that was the only reason I put it down, it was that compelling.
