bookshelves: suspense, mystery

Okay, so Grisham isn’t exactly the most eloquent author in the world. In fact, I found myself having to read over a few parts of this novel because I couldn’t figure out what was going on. There were pages and pages of nothing but dialogue and no way to reference the person talking without going back and finding out who started the conversation. He was very vague in his descriptions and often used the same terminology over and over. (Like, she “paid with plastic” instead of taking the time to state that she used her credit card to purchase something.)

That being said, I absolutely loved this book. Not even his distracting writing style kept me from devouring the story. It was fast-paced, edgy and kept you in complete suspense until the final chapter. The characters were believable and likeable and I found myself wishing for a longer lunch break just so I could keep reading. This was my first encounter with Mr. Grisham, and I dare say that it won’t be the last.
