I loved Anne, really loved her. I have read reviews which say that Anne (spelled with an e !)is silly, vain, hot-tempered. Oh yes, she is all that and much more. Anne is a human being brimming with dreams and most of all ready to enjoy life, not in a jaded fashion, but how it should be enjoyed, she loves every tiny fern, every little flower, even puffed sleeves! Her capacity to enjoy life is amazing. That is what Mathew must have seen when he was taking a skinny, redhead girl 'home' A tempest had entered his life and he never, ever regretted it. The best that happened to Anne, was Marilla, the strict disciplinarian, for someone had to dampen some of that spirit, but not all of it like Mathew tells her!
The reason Anne is loved till today is because we all need a dose of her Joy of life. What would we be without Joy of life, Joy in nature, Joy in our children and all little things that make life so wonderful!
I am glad I read this book so late in life, I can sympathize with Marilla and share Anne with her

I never got into the Anne of Green Gables series. . . I loved Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames, the Bobbsey Twins, The Hardy Boys, Laura Ingalls Wilder's fantastic books, but I could never bring myself to sit still long enough to read Anne. . but reading these reviews makes her sound just like me (I'm a read head). . . . I am reading a lot of Emily Dickinson stuff right now, but the library is on my way home, and as surgery is still up in the air (there is a book in the making in my own personal saga!!!), I'll be doing ever more reading. I'll come back after I've given her a fair chance, I promise.
