The Familiars was a great book to read. This book is about 3 main characters, Aldwyn, an alley cat, Gilbert, a whimsy tree frog, and Skylar, a know-it-all blue jay.
They are all familiars, which means that they are companions of wizards and wizards in training.
They live in a kingdom called Vastia. Aldwyn gets adopted by a boy named Jack, while Skylar and Gilbert have their loyals, Marianne and Dalton. They all train under the wizard named Kalstaff. Even though, Aldwyn really has no magical abilities like the other familiars, he only is a normal orphan alley cat.He keeps this a secret. One day, their loyals, or owners are captured by the Queen of the Land. Now it is up to the familiars to save their loyals. A quote that I have found important from this book was, “Earlier this evening, I saw a prophecy-three stars spinning in the sky. It foretold that three young spell casters from Stone Runlet were destined to save this world.” This is when the book’s story really starts. It is also the number one reason why the familiars have to go and save their loyals.Since their loyals will save the world, they have to be saved. The Queen obviously knows this too, so that’s why she wants to destroy them. Another quote that was really important is, “Magic isn’t just for wizards anymore, now it’s time for a new species of heroes to step through.”

I like this quote especially because unlike all the other typical fantasy plots and books, where the protagonists are always human or some kind of fairy/elf; here the animals step up and own the story. It’s like the book series, Warriors, where cats rule the forests and it is about their life. I find it interesting to read from an animal’s perspective it is amazing and a great experience. This book is a very imaginative and creative piece. I truly have become a fan of the two authors. I would recommend this book to anyone. It entertained me very much. I have rated it a 4, because even though it was a great book, there were some parts that I would have changed or added more detail too. If you like fantasy, adventure, and have a penchant for animals, then you will love this book. There are surprises around every corner, that will want you to keep on reading. Will Aldwyn’s secret that he has no powers be revealed, will the familiars be able to save their loyals in time, before they meet their doom, and will they discover their destinies? You have to read The Familiars to find out!
Happy Reading!!!!!

Andrew Jacobson Hi, I'm one of the authors of The Familiars. I see that you have marked my book as to-read. Now would be a great time to catch up on the first book and its sequel, Secrets of the Crown, in paperback or e-reader. You can find them in bookstores everywhere or on-line! Thanks.

Ifrah Thank you! I will read the second book once I acquire it. :D
