Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes is a poetic novel about sixteen students whose lives are changed by expressing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences by poetry on Open Mike Fridays. This helped develop love, friendship and understanding for each other. Those poems hold a strong bond for that class and even for their school as this poetry slam developed into a front page news article on a newspaper. I enjoyed this book because I felt that it was a unique book. I consider it unique because I felt that those poems were really a masterpiece and they were not even written by someone famous like Robert Frost. Instead they were written by high schoolers1 I suggest this book to anyone who want to be inspired because I know I did.
