It's taken a couple of years, but the persistent Elemaiya have finally found Ashe Evans again, and breached the protection spells around the paranormal community of Cloud Chief, Oklahoma. A violent creature, a mutated child of the Elemaiya, has been dispatched to capture or kill Ashe Evans, and anyone else who gets in the way. Although the creature's efforts toward Ashe are thwarted, the fact that it knew where to find Ashe throws the paranormal community into panic mode as it must once again relocate in order to protect itself.

Ashe is despondent over the need to move and because the lives of everyone in the community are disrupted because of him. Most of the residents understand it is not Ashe's fault (except one, who delights in deliberately casting the blame on Ashe), and a few are even excited about the move, especially when they learn they will be settling in Star Cove, Texas, just a short distance from Corpus Christi and the Gulf of Mexico.

While the families are driving to their new homes, Wynn and her family stop in Amarillo to visit relatives. Ashe and the others take a more direct route to Star Cove, and many are settling into their new homes when Ashe is suddenly pressed into service by Mr. Winkler to save Wynn's life. While in Amarillo, she is kidnapped by a nefarious pair of werewolves who have arranged for her to be hunted by a wealthy congressman. It's up to Ashe to save the only living shapeshifter unicorn on the planet!

Even with all of his special abilities, many of which are new and begin to manifest now that he is getting older, Ashe is not immune to the angst and anguish of a teenage heart. Hiding developing feelings for Wynn, he withdraws when he discovers that Wynn and Sali have developed their own feelings - for each other! Ashe is relieved when he is asked to go to work for Mr. Winkler for the summer, even though it means moving to Dallas, and later to Port Aransas, Texas, as it affords him a way to take his mind off his personal problems, or at least distance himself from them.

Ashe has a knack for puzzles, including computer hacking, and his talents are put to excellent use ferreting out weaknesses in various financial and security systems of Winkler Security's high profile customers. Although surrounded by Winkler's own werewolf guard, Ashe is once again discovered and attacked by the Elemaiya. Having failed more than once in their efforts to capture Ashe, they devise a plan to kidnap the other shapeshifting children of Star Cove in order to lure Ashe to them.

The action is rapid fire in Target, and Ashe is singularly capable of combating the Elemaiya in ways the werewolves, vampires, and other shapeshifters are not. But he certainly isn't untouchable or infallible, and he struggles to do his best to rescue his friends using his newfound abilities. The exciting climax will leave you hanging, and begging for more!

Long protected by the close-knit paranormal community and the watchful eye of what sometimes seems to Ashe like overbearing parents, it's ironic that his own survival and that of everyone he cares about is suddenly thrust into his hands. Without a second thought or even recognition of the seriousness of his situation, Ashe takes on the responsibility and hurls himself into the battle. Enemies beware, for the demure teen who becomes a bumblebee bat has many hidden talents that will lead to your destruction should you continue to assail against him!
