I first read this book back in jr high or high school, and coming off of Ender's Game, I wasn't prepared for how different a story Speaker would be. Now, with time and more life experience, my ability to appreciate the issues and themes within the novel has grown from when I first read Speaker, and I found myself really enjoying this read.

For those expecting more Ender's Game, they may be disappointed. Yet, what they will find is a novel that discusses the complexity of human emotion, from loss and misunderstanding to love and redemption. Highly recommended.

Now on to Xenocide, the next in the series. Once again, I read this one years ago, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit. I'm curious to see what kind of impression it will leave on me this time through.
