I'm not sure I've much to add to what (little) I have already stated. This is simply one of the best novels I've ever read. The book is infinitely more than a 900 page cattle drive. If you haven't read this book you are missing out on a gem.

Original Review: Absolutely phenomenal (better review forthcoming)

Amy If you don't love this book, I may cry. It is one of my absolute favorites ever.

Dan Amy! Where have you been?! So this is one of the few books that breaks your 250 page rule (or whatever it was?)

Amy I'm here, mummified in my little room in Tucson. Yes, this is one of those books. I don't know why--I hate most Westerns, but I love this book. Probably because it is a like a Western soap opera! (Much like Anna Karenina is a Russian soap opera and The Stand is a post-apocalyptic soap opera, and I love those two unceasingly as well.)

Elizabeth Don't even glance at the movie cast before you finish this book. McMurtry's characters are much more fun.
