I first read this book in my early teens and loved it. Re-reading it now, 20 years later, feels like spending time with an old friend. However, I am much more aware now of the flaws in the story. Most of the politics make little to no sense, and the characters' motivations are highly suspect.

The book probably deserves three stars, but I love it too much to give it an average rating. It's a good book for a rainy afternoon, where you just want to curl up and dream about true love and dragons. Just be sure to bring a healthy suspension of disbelief with you.
