After the Funeral (Hercule Poirot #29)
by Agatha Christie
by Agatha Christie
** spoiler alert **
A classic, can't go really wrong with an Agatha Christie, I had been listening to this one while driving. The Narrator is Hugh Fraser, who portrays the Side kick to Poirot, Captain Hastings, on the Poirot television show. He really did an excellent job of channelling David Suchet as Poirot during the course of the book.
I love to listen and re-read Agatha Christie books as they are nostalgic for me, as I shared them with my mother growing up. However, during the course of this mystery, as it unfolded like I remembered it did, i found myself wondering why the murderer didn't just steal instead of murder. Seemed to me it would have been a lot easier, nothing much to cover up, just steal, hide and wait, no messy continuing to murder, attempt to murder, lie...
Completely short circuited the plot theory... I suddenly wondered how many things else could be made easier in real life, if we just took the easier way out (not the stealing part) instead of working on the big, huge elaborate crazy RuBe Goldberg plan.... Weird, unintended I'm sure, thoughts on life from a classic mystery plot.
