This book has a great premise & the opening chapters are really excellent. I ordered 2 copies in fact for my library, anticipating demand because they are making it into a movie.

However, the ending didn't live up to the begining. There wasn't as much character development as I'd have liked to see. The girlfriend character was rather static & it was hard for me to imagine the passion the main character claimed he felt for her by the end of the story. Similarly, other secondary characters were underdeveloped. Personally, I find reading long battle scenes really tedious & that was what I got for several chapters near the end of the book.

But the audience it's intended for probably won't have the same complaints & the main storyline is still compelling enough that I will probably read the sequel that is inevitably comming. I just doubt I'll pick the first one up again.
