** spoiler alert ** The Women of Brewster Place is an astonishing novel filled with heartache, rejoice and love. Gloria Naylor provides her readers the idea of these women with many different characteristics living in the same building with one story that connects them all together. The main character or primary character's name is Mattie Michael and she goes through a lot from her previous two relationships. One being with her son and the other with her son's father. Both relationships ended with heartache because two of the three important men in her life left her and now she remains faithful to one man whom she refers to as God. Etta Mae, Mattie's long time friend, is Mattie's complete opposite. She's outspoken, free-wheeling and not afraid to flaunt herself through the streets of Brewster Place. It is the strong difference between these two women that has kept them so close together. Along with them, several other ladies are mentioned in the novel, each with a different story that characterizes them as whom they are, as one, living in Brewster Place. It is realistic, accomplishing, and inspirational to most women who have been through similar situations like these ladies. They are wise women, profound women, they are th Women of Brewster Place and without them there is no story.
