The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3)
by John Flanagan
by John Flanagan
July Book #5: This book was my favorite in the series thus far. I'm not sure why, but something about it worked for me. Will and Evanlyn have been taken to Skandia and sold into slavery. Sadly, Will is put to work outside in the freezing cold and he becomes addicted to a local "weed" that offers fleeting warmth to the body, but slowly kills the user. Ultimately, the Skandian warrior who kidnapped them in the first place helps Evanlyn escape with Will. The book ends just as Will has managed to defeat his addiction. Meanwhile, Halt, accompanied by Horace, are on their way to save them. They manage to enrage a local (and evil) knight and are imprisioned until they manage to outwit him. I enjoyed the dual storylines very much and look forward to reading another book in this series.
