Difficult read. Not what you learn in school. Violent, sad. I'm not liking Christopher Columbus...
Ok, I didn't finish this book. Too violent and depressing. I know it's history but I just can't read it.

Jane my husband read this years ago. I think he liked it, or found it very interesting anyway. I haven't read it.

Jane Steve says for him the worst part of the book was in the 1930s when the miners tried to go on strike for better conditions. Their strike was violently put down by the mining company in collusion with the government. He says before he read that he was sort of anti-union but after, now he's pro.

North That's interesting that he learned something that changed his mind. This book is still on my shelf so someday I might pick it back up and educate myself further. Ignorance can be bliss but...
