Read in September, 2010

As a big fan of crime books I've been recommended James Patterson books for a while but have never managed to find the first book of his Alex Cross Series. ( I have to read books in order, it's my little thing.) Finally I found it in a charity shop and soon got down to read it. And it was brilliant! The story was complex and original, as well as the characters.

Alex Cross is not like any other main character I've read before. And that makes this book so good, it's different which is hard when your reading this genre. There are so many different crime books now that there has to be some overlap in the characters and story lines. But this book certainly to me stands out from the rest.

It starts by describing a crime that happened 60 years before the rest of the book. The kidnapping of a baby by a 12 year old. In my opinion this crime is only a small part of the rest of the book but it's only what is needed to want you to read more of this book. The book skips ahead to 1992 where Alex Cross a black detective with a PhD in Psychology is told by his partner, John Sampson there has been another murder and that its "our boy again." Through only one page of simple dialoge and description you find out that Alex is a widow, living with his nana in the black ghetto of Washington D.C.

If your looking for a crime book that is a little different, is going to keep you on your toes and is going to suck you in from the first page. This is it. I can't wait to read the next book in this sure to fabulous series.
