this book is awesome. i really like hemingway's short stories and was mixed on 'a farewell to arms', but this is a masterpiece. it is a fascinating story of the spanish civil war that actually made me want learn more about the war. PLUS, it's the best of the modernist stream-of-consciousness books i have read. probably because there is an interesting story to go along with the experimentation. also, the english-as-spanish-translation is a little jarring but entertaining.
