This book was incredibly boring. I can't read books anymore that I'm not interested in. I got 30 pages and then went screw it. The author had nothing to give a 30 pages, so I set it down. By at most a book should get interesting at page 15.

Lynne I think it's best to start with the book about the beginnings of the Valdoria/Skolia family. Skyfall is the first and helps readers understand the characters and background better. I believe the beginning of this book wouldn't be boring if readers had more knowledge of the overall plot.

Darcy Yeah, but if a writer is good enough a reader should be able pick up anywhere in the series and somewhat get an idea about what the series is about.

Lynne Well, not all books begin like that. War and Peace doesn't start out all that interestingly. I like the Skolian books because her human portraits are really well done.

As for Schism, Asaro means to have the books stand on their own. They are just more interesting as the reader begins to know all the characters. I haven't read them in order but still like them.

To each, her own.
