My favorite book; the first adult novel I read on my own. I first read it as a child in a single four-hour sitting, literally unable to put it down. I've reread it a few times since, including for research when I used it as the final chapter of my college thesis (defining the term "epic" as a literary genre, using Watership Down to explore the survival and adaption of Classical Epic Elements to modernity).

[ words ] staff pick, uninterrupted "sold" run of July-Aug 2011, book VI
