The book "This Boy's Life," by Tobias Wolff was written through author's lens in which included his memoir. This novel tells about a mother and son moving from place to place looking for a settlement. Caroline Wolff, the mother, wants to find a best place for his son, Toby. They moved to Seattle and met Dwight Hansen who Caroline thought would be best for Toby therefore they married. However everything wasn't like how Caroline thought due to Dwight Hansen's abusive attitute toward toby through physically and mentally.
Later on, Toby met Arthur who was his friend and ambiguously homosexual. When Toby wanted to moved out to lived with his brother Gregory by applying scholarships, Arthur helped him faslfy his grade. After all the hard work, Toby finally got into a high school in Pennsylvania and had a chance to leave his stepfather. However this is not the ending yet and if you want to know the ending, then read the book.
This is one of the most sorrow book i read because the life of Toby was really tough. He was being rejected by his real father and was treated badly by his stepfather. Throughout the whole book, I really feel sad for Toby's life and hoped that there's another way out for him. But it was really couraging when he have hope and never gave up.
i would recommand this book to anyone so they could feel how Toby felt at the moment and most likely everyone will be able to connected to him.
