This installment was just as inthralling as the first. After having survived being blown far off course into the frigid North of the Puffins. Our heroes find their way to the blessed island and the Great Ga'Hoole Tree.
It is here that the adventure really begins, as each member of the 'band' is set apart in different chores that highlight the strengths of each and allow each of the five (for I count Mrs.P) to develop in his or her own right.
I love the way that the author allows each character in the story to be fully expressed, while never allowing the reader to lose sight of the focal character. I was never bored and couldn't tear myself away from the story for one minute. I can't wait to read the other books in the series.
I know that this book did a lot of the set-up work for later parts of the story and I have found that many authors' work can become flat when doing this. That was far from the case here. This book was vibrant and alive with emotion and action.
Bravo!!!
