The story is engaging and moves quickly enough. My children enjoyed it and wanted me to read more. There are several instances of superb word pictures that I really loved (like when the child, Michele, was described as hiding behind a song.) I should have made note of them.

The biggest problem with the book is that it isn't the best choice for a read-aloud. There is heavy conversation and, unless you are good at doing several different voices, and you read ahead to determine where the dialog turns, it is difficult to read the conversation so that kids will understand it.
