liked it

I didn't realize this was one of a series of books. I got it on
CD from the library and listened to it in the car.
I couldn't quite figure out Pendergast. He seemed more like a
superhero than an FBI agent. How does he have so much money that
he can pay $50,000 to a couple to give up their suite on a ship?
And how can he get the captain of the ship to turn back after he
and his friend, Constance, miss it? And how can he narrow down his
suspects from hundreds of people on the ship to just a handful by
just looking at them and judging their physical condition. Anyway,
maybe previous books would explain some things.

I did enjoy the book and kept picturing it playing out as a
movie. It seemed just made for a mystery/horror movie. I liked
some of the ship's crew characters more than I did Pendergast and
Constance. The last quarter of the book was unrelentlessly
tense. The plight of the ship was more interesting to me than
what was happening with the stolen artifact.

Maybe I need to read some of the earlier books in the series.
