Play Dead (Andy Carpenter Series, #6)

Not usually the lawyer-book type, but the dog on the cover intrigued me. The dog, rescued by the lawyer/narrator, Andy Carpenter, gives Carpenter the opportunity to re-open the murder trial for which its owner currently sits in jail. Most of the book focuses on the trial, but there are plenty of dog scenes featuring the rescued Reggie and Carpenter's own Golden Retriever.
I do wish Reggie would have played a bigger part, as at times, I think the author forgot about him. Also, the book opens with the saving of Reggie from doggy death-row thanks to the actions of the rescue group Carpenter founded, but the rescue group isn't mentioned again.
Overall, I found the story engaging and the author kept me guessing until the end. I would be interested in reading more in this series, and purchased the next book, 'New Tricks' at the same used book sale as I got this one.
