The most striking thing about this book is that it calls into question the verdict on the recent case involving the college student from the University of Washington, charged with killing her British roommate. Preston only mentions the case in passing near the conclusion of Monster, but after seeing the botched but persistent issue made out of the Monster of Florence serial killings, it is harder to believe that Italian justice is just.
